Entenda mais sobre o TOEFL ITP e veja por que a nota (score) tem validade de apenas 2 anos

Why is the TOEFL ITP score valid?

When candidates begin their research on foreign courses and universities, they begin to encounter proficiency tests. And one of the most common for accessing short courses abroad is the TOEFL ITP. A very common question among candidates is why this test is valid: the grade is valid for two years.

So, in today's post, we'll understand more about the TOEFL ITP and see why the note (score) is valid for only 2 years.

I understand more about the TOEFL ITP

Before we talk about the TOEFL ITP, let's understand more about the TOEFL tests. As we've seen in previous posts, TOEFL stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language.

It is the best known and most respected English proficiency exam in the world. It is recognized by more than 9,000 higher education institutions, universities and agencies in more than 130 countries.

In general, the test assesses the ability to understand and apply the English language in an academic context, and the exam comprises 4 requirements:

  • listening (oral interpretation);
  • reading (text interpretation);
  • writing (writing);
  • speaking (fluency and diction).

The ITP TOEFL (Institutional Testing Program) is a TOEFL category and comprises only three sections:

  • Listening comprehension (35 minutes);
  • Reading comprehension (55 minutes);
  • Language structure (25 minutes).

All these sections have multiple choice questions, with the total exam duration being about two hours. In other words, unlike other categories, the TOEFL ITP does not have Writing and Speaking sections.

The validity of the TOEFL ITP: What do I need to know about the validity of the score?

According to the website of ETS, the score earned on the TOEFL ITP is valid for two years from the date of the test. And what is the reason? Let's know some reasons.

Proficiency changes over time

Many candidates complain about the short validity of the proficiency tests, especially the TOEFLT ITP. But one of the main reasons is because proficiency in any non-native language changes over time.

Remember: the TOEFL ITP is primarily intended to assess a candidate's ability to understand and use English. And these skills, over a certain period, can evolve or not, depending on:

  • how much the candidate used the language,
  • how much studied,
  • how long you didn't use it,
  • among other factors.

The skills to follow the course

In general, as we have already seen, the TOEFL ITP is a required requirement for short courses offered by educational institutions.

As they are of short duration, and for the student to follow the course, a certain level of English (score / score) is required. But this proficiency needs to be measured recently for him to be able to meet the course requirements.

So, if you are going to take the TOEFL ITP test, keep in mind that it is valid for two years, combined?! But don't be disappointed: it can be quite interesting (and challenging) to measure your level of English proficiency every couple of years. It's even a way of checking, against the same criteria, your evolution in the language. What about?
